What our SR&ED consultants do

An SR&ED claim has a technical half and a financial half, and CRA reviews both. We handle the whole claim with your team:

  • Eligibility scoping. We find the work that meets CRA's test (a technological advancement pursued through a systematic investigation) and separate it from routine development.
  • Technical project descriptions. We interview your engineers or developers and write the Form T661 project descriptions around the uncertainties, the work done and the advancements.
  • Financial schedules. We calculate salaries, materials, contracts and the proxy amount, and prepare T2 Schedule 31 and the Ontario schedules.
  • CRA review support. If your claim is selected, we prepare the responses and support you through the research and technology advisor and financial reviews.
  • Pre-claim approval and planning. We help you decide whether CRA's pre-claim approval is worth using and set up the records that make next year's claim easier.
  • Stacking. We build the claim alongside Ontario credits, NRC IRAP and other funding so assistance is accounted for correctly.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an SR&ED consultant cost?

GovMoney's fee is contingent: you pay only when your claim is approved, and there is no cost if nothing is approved. We explain the fee for your situation on the free intro call, before any work starts.

Do you work with companies outside Toronto?

Yes. GovMoney is based in Whitby and works with businesses across Toronto, Durham Region (Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Clarington), the rest of Ontario and across Canada. Most of the work is done virtually.

What does CRA review support include?

Full CRA audit defence is included in every SR&ED engagement. If CRA selects your claim for review, we prepare the responses and support you through the technical and financial review.

How much SR&ED can my company claim?

For a Canadian-controlled private corporation, the enhanced credit is 35% on up to $6 million of qualified SR&ED expenditures a year, refundable on current expenditures, and 15% above that limit. The limit phases out for larger corporations. Our SR&ED tax credit guide explains the rules in detail.

What is the deadline to claim SR&ED?

The claim is due 12 months after your corporate tax return's filing due date, which for most corporations is about 18 months after the end of the tax year. CRA cannot extend it, so talk to us well before that date.

Can you help with CRA pre-claim approval?

Yes. CRA's pre-claim approval service, launched April 1, 2026, lets businesses with under $25 million in gross income get planned projects approved before they claim. We help decide whether it is worth using and prepare the request.

Can SR&ED be combined with Ontario credits and grants?

Yes. Ontario corporations can add the Ontario Innovation Tax Credit and the Ontario Research and Development Tax Credit on the same SR&ED work, and many companies also use NRC IRAP.
